In 1983, the Ohio Association of County Boards of Developmental Disabilities (OACB) was created to support the state’s 88 county boards by providing information, continuing education, and legislative advocacy. The association would begin formal operations the following year with 53 of Ohio’s County Boards as charter members. By the end of the decade, all 88 of Ohio’s County Boards were members.
Ohio Public Images (OPI) was also established to educate the public and increase positive awareness and acceptance of people with developmental disabilities in Ohio and nationwide. Through developing informational materials and consulting on special projects, OPI has served as a resource for organizations and professionals in the developmental disabilities field working to create rich community lives for people with developmental disabilities.
