Always There Day of Celebration and Advocacy at the Statehouse

On Tuesday, October 24, we will gather at the Ohio Statehouse to celebrate 50 years of support, advocacy, and amazing stories from Ohio’s county boards of developmental disabilities.

Always There Time Capsule

As part of the Always There campaign’s effort to recognize the history and future of county boards of DD, we will be accepting small artifacts from each county across Ohio for inclusion in the Always There Time Capsule. Prior to the Statehouse event, every county will receive a small (6” x 8.75” x 2.75”) plastic box that can be filled with items representing their county. All 88 counties’ micro-capsules will be placed within the larger time capsule at the Statehouse celebration and sealed for 25 years – not to be opened until October 25, 2042. Many different kinds of items can be included reflecting the past and present, such as:

  • Hard-copy photographs
  • Photographs and videos on digital storage media
  • Handwritten letters from board members, people served, and staff
  • Newspaper clippings
  • Board-branded materials, brochures, and annual reports
  • Art projects, crafts, and products made by people with disabilities
  • Items reflecting today’s pop culture

Always There Video Project: On-Site Contributions

In addition to the Always There Time Capsule, we will also be collecting video memories at the celebration! We’ll ask attendees to tell us on camera in a few sentences what county boards of DD mean to them. After the responses have been collected, we will compile them in a special 50th anniversary video and share them with the field!
